Job description

Powerwell is a leading recruitment firm helping our clients discover top talent. We are recruiting for a Mobility Project Engineer. Candidates must be a United States Citizen or Green Card Holder and work fully onsite in Troy, MI.

Candidates must have the willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Job Description

Primary responsibility is to lead the development and launch of new product applications for targeted OEMs and Tiers. This role is a combination of application engineering and project management and supports the full product lifecycle across ICE, hybrid, and new energy platforms. Our client's products include metal tube assemblies, hoses and flexible elements for engine fluid and exhaust gas transfer, as well as vibration and thermal management. Our client's Mobility customers include leading automotive, commercial vehicles (class 6-8) and engine manufacturers.

Travel

A general estimate for travel would be approximately two domestic trips per year and one to two international trips per year. The international travel would usually either be to Germany to our client's HQ or to Mexico as this team manages the sales and engineering for Mexico as well. Short trips are typically under a week. On rare occasions in the case of a training in Germany or of a conference at our client's HQ, candidates could stay into the following week for some face-to-face meetings and trainings so it might be possible that a trip extends over a weekend into the following week on a rare occasion. Currently due to cost and geopolitical issues, travel occurs when absolutely necessary.

Key Responsibilities & Function
  • Oversee project from concept through production, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and internal design standards.
  • Design development, engineering changes, APQP, project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for assigned projects.
  • Interpret customer specifications and develop then into detailed engineering drawings, design packages and manufacturable solutions.
  • Cross functional collaboration across engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing and sales team to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Apply material science and mechanical engineering expertise to the design, fabrication and optimize assemblies.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, prototype builds and validation testing.
  • Support cost estimates, quotations, and technical proposals.
  • Review and document technical data, reports, and test results.
  • Maintain active communication with customer engineering teams to ensure project alignment and timely delivery.
  • Represent our client at industry events and trade shows.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

This role requires excellent communication, strategic thinking, and cross-functional leadership in a dynamic automotive environment.

Qualifications

  • Over two years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, preferably in the metal forming, metal tube and bending industry or comparable. Prior experience with thermal management, media transfer or vibration management desired.

  • Operate effectively in ambiguous, time-sensitive environments with complex engineering challenges.
  • Strong inter-personal skills, and ability to work independently with minimal direction with global teams.
  • Comfortable with occasional physical activity (ability to lift to 20 lbs).
  • Full time role based in Troy Michigan – primarily onsite at office.
