Job summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of nursing, and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, the Mobility Aide plays a critical role in advancing patient care by helping patients safely achieve their maximum mobility potential. The Mobility Aide provides direct physical assistance and support to patients to achieve daily mobility goals, documents mobility activities within the electronic medical record, and maintains a safe environment to minimize fall risks. Operating within the scope of the clinical care team, the incumbent collaborates closely with nursing, rehabilitation, and physician staff to promote a culture of mobility and patient safety across the unit.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

• Provide direct physical assistance and support to patients during transfers, standing, ambulation, and bed activities to safely meet daily clinical mobility goals.

• Confirm appropriateness for patient mobility with the assigned nurse prior to intervention, and communicate patient mobility performance outcomes back to nursing, patient care technicians (PCTs), and therapy staff.

• Utilize safe patient handling protocols, proper body mechanics, and fall safety measures while operating mobility devices, including mechanical lifts and properly sizing walkers and crutches to patients.

• Assist other clinical staff (including nursing, PCTs, physical/occupational therapy, and MD/PA/NPs) in multi-person or complex patient mobilization tasks.

• Document all completed patient mobility activities and observations accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely manner.

• Participate in orienting and mentoring new mobility aides or student interns on unit workflows and safe patient handling protocols.

• Complete other operational duties and responsibilities as assigned, including attending occasional department meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent isrequired, alongside the physical ability to meet job responsibilities and the ability to pass clinical competency testing within30 daysof employment.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (If none, please enter “N/A”):

• A high school diploma or equivalent combined with at least one year of prior experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED (If none, please enter “N/A”):

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs) (If none, please enter “N/A”)

• Knowledge of proper body mechanics, safe patient handling techniques, and clinical fall prevention strategies.

• Ability to understand, accurately follow, and clearly communicate oral and written clinical instructions to the care team, patients, and visitors.

• Ability to learn and effectively navigate the hospital’s electronic medical record system and associated computer programs.

• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, physically demandingclinicalenvironment.

Compensation Range:

$20.72- $25.75

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
