Job summary

Dallas Trailer Repair Co. is seeking a Transport Refrigeration Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain reefer units in line with manufacturer specs. This hands-on role requires technical skill, problem solving, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities include diagnosing systems, leak detection, maintenance per standards, sourcing parts, and safety compliance. On-call support may be required. Candidates should have 1–2 years of mechanical experience, a valid driver's license, and ability to

• ASE certifications highly desired but not required.

Position Overview:

As a Transport Refrigeration Technician, you’ll be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining reefer units in line with manufacturer specifications. This is a hands‑on role that requires technical expertise, problem‑solving ability, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems, including starting/charging systems, compressors, evaporators, condensers, electrical components, and common fault codes.
• Perform leak detection, recharging, soldering, and component replacements.
• Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on reefer units per manufacturer standards.
• Source and install necessary replacement parts.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and health standards.
• Provide on‑call support for after‑hours service as required.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

• Possess a valid driver’s license and a clear Motor Vehicle Report to our Driver Fleet Policy.
• Must be “insurable” according DTR’s insurance company’s requirements (acceptable driving record, age min/max requirements)
• Must be able to read and write in English, in order to follow local, state, and federal driving laws and signs and as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
• Experience: 1–2 years of mechanical or equivalent experience.
• Certifications: ASE certifications highly desired but not required.
• Must pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test, background check (10-year), and drug/medical physical exam.
• Proven mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
• Ability to read and write in English for documentation and communication.
• Must have own tools and safety gear (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection).

Physical Demands

• Heavy Work: Exert up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
• Frequent activities: Walking, standing, climbing, stooping, crouching, balancing, kneeling, and crawling.
• Manual dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers for grasping, typing, and operating tools.
• Sensory abilities: Talking, hearing, & vision sufficient for detailed inspection, safe operation of tools, machinery, and vehicles.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a shop setting — both indoors and outdoors. Conditions may include exposure to:

• Non-climate-controlled environments / Hot/cold temperature changes
• Dirt, dust, soot, fumes, and other airborne particles
• Moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment
• Chemicals and limited ventilation
• High places, confined spaces, and loud noise
• Proper PPE and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Rate: $30 – $37 (depending on experience and location)
