Job summary

Compass Rail Services LLC is seeking a Carman Mobile Railcar Repair Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair railcars at customer sites and rail yards. You will handle valve work, run safety-compliant procedures, and document inspections, with emphasis on accuracy and independence in field settings.

Starting at $22.00–$35.00 per hour, full-time with a 40-hour week, overnight travel, and potential offsite training in Hamlet, NC. Commitment to safety and FRA/AAR standards is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of experience in railcar repair or valve work preferred.
• Familiarity with FRA and AAR regulations related to tank cars valve inspections.
• Experience with valve repair tools, hydrostatic testing, and documentation procedures.
• Welding certification (FCAW, SMAW) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site inspection, maintenance, and repair of freight railcars (tank cars and boxcars).
• Inspect and repair valves and fittings on tank cars, including pressure relief valves and top fittings.
• Conduct valve seat resurfacing, lapping, and leak testing using approved procedures and calibrated tools.
• Troubleshoot mechanical problems and perform structural and running gear repairs.
• Ensure all repairs comply with FRA, AAR, and company standards.
