Job summary

Compass Rail Services LLC seeks a Mobile Railcar Repair Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair freight railcars at customer sites, yards, or remote locations. The role requires safe, independent work and adherence to FRA/AAR standards.

You will perform valve work, welding, and documentation of inspections and repairs, with extensive travel across the region. A strong mechanical background and focus on quality are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years in railcar repair, valve work or similar.
• FRA/AAR regulations familiarity.
• Welding certification a plus; CDL preferred or willing to obtain.
• Ability to read valve schematics and repair manuals.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site inspection, maintenance and repair of freight railcars.
• Inspect and repair valves and fittings on tank cars (various types).
• Valve seat resurfacing, lapping and leak testing per procedures.
• Troubleshoot mechanical problems and perform structural repairs.
• Ensure compliance with FRA/AAR standards and documentation.
