Job summary

Compass Rail Services LLC is seeking a Mobile Railcar Repair Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair railcars at customer sites, rail yards, or remote locations. This role requires strong mechanical skills, including valve work, independence, and strict adherence to safety and FRA/AAR regulations.

Starting at $25.00–$35.00 per hour, full time with 40 hours weekly and extensive travel. May require up to three weeks of offsite training in Hamlet, NC to ensure proficiency in repair procedures

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years railcar repair or mechanical valve experience.
• FRA/AAR regulations familiarity.
• Experience with valve repair tools and hydrostatic testing.
• Welding certification a plus.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
• Ability to read valve schematics and safety docs.
• Detail-oriented and able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair freight railcars on-site.
• Inspect and repair valves and fittings on tank cars.
• Perform valve seat resurfacing, lapping, and leak testing.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform running gear repairs.
• Ensure all repairs comply with FRA, AAR, and company standards.
• Complete inspection and repair documentation.
