Job summary

TridentCare is seeking a qualified phlebotomist in California to join our field team. You will drive your own vehicle to client facilities, primarily nursing homes, to collect blood samples and perform venipuncture according to established procedures.

You will correctly identify patients, label specimens, and ensure proper documentation and PHI handling. You will coordinate with dispatch and laboratory staff, maintain records, and uphold patient rights and safety.

Qualifications

• Must have current clinical licensure, if required by state.
• Knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture and sample handling.
• Current and valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance.
• Access to a vehicle in good condition for daily driving.
• Good driving record.
• Able to work with minimal supervision and maintain time sheets.
• Understand resident rights and patient care basics.
• Able to obtain blood specimens from patients under various conditions.
• Proficient in written and verbal English.
• Able to work professionally with clients, patients and staff.
• Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Conduct oneself professionally.

Responsibilities

• Drive to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by dispatch or supervisor.
• Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples.
• Identify patients correctly prior to drawing blood.
• Label specimens properly and ensure requisitions include billing info.
• Transport PHI in accordance with policy.
• Plan draw schedules with attention to patient priorities.
• Complete logs and time sheets neatly and accurately.
• Coordinate with dispatch, payroll, lab and courier departments.
• Maintain all equipment and report issues promptly.
• Be available to work when on duty and notify dispatch of availability.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/ Area Lead.
• Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
• Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing.
• Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
• Followsphlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
• Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients.
• Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner.
• Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments.
• Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work.
• Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have current clinical Licensure, if required by State.
• Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
• Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures.
• Must have a current and valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance.
• Must possess access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records.
• Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care and patient right to refuse.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English Language.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
