Job Responsibilities
- Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining samples from patients.
- Properly and accurately identify all patients daily according to AHA’s patient identification policy before collection.
- Ensure specimens are properly labeled, in the correct tubes, and accompanied by completed requisitions prior to transport.
- Follow AHA’s policies on transporting PHI.
- Maintain a positive attitude and concern for patient and staff safety, quality patient care, especially considering time-sensitive blood draws.
- Understand and respect resident rights, patient care, and the right to refuse procedures.
- Obtain blood specimens from patients under various conditions.
- Collaborate effectively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory, and courier departments.
- Possess knowledge of medical terminology related to laboratory procedures.
- Understand specimen preservation, patient preparation, and specimen procedures.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and maintain accurate timesheets.
- Maintain equipment in good working condition and report issues immediately.
- Respond promptly to company-issued mobile devices, check-in/out of facilities, and be ready to work.
- Complete and submit logs, timesheets, and records accurately and timely.
- Hold a current, valid Driver’s License and auto insurance.
- Own a reliable vehicle suitable for daily driving.
- Maintain a good driving record.
- Prioritize tasks, take directions, and conduct oneself professionally at all times.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience.
- Valid state-issued Driver's License; age 21 or older.
- Clean driving record over the past 5 years; provide proof of auto insurance (100/300/100).
- Clean criminal background; additional background checks or fingerprinting may be required depending on the state.
- Phlebotomy Certification from an accredited school or equivalent preferred.
- For Home Draws: minimum of 3 years of phlebotomy experience and completion of additional credentialing.
