Job summary

TridentCare in California is seeking a phlebotomist to perform blood collection at client facilities, mainly nursing homes. You will drive your own vehicle to sites, follow phlebotomy procedures, and properly identify patients before drawing blood.

You will label specimens, complete requisitions, and transport PHI according to policy, while coordinating with dispatch and lab teams. Applicants should have valid licensure and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have current clinical licensure, if required by State.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures and venipuncture.
• Knowledge of specimen labeling and transport requirements.
• Ability to obtain blood samples from patients under various conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal English.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and auto insurance.

Responsibilities

• Drive personal vehicle to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by dispatcher or supervisor.
• Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples.
• Identify patients according to policy prior to drawing.
• Ensure specimens are properly labeled and accompanied by proper requisitions.
• Follow policy on transporting PHI.
• Plan and organize draw schedule with patient priority.
• Complete logs, time sheets and required records neatly and accurately.
• Work cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier teams.
• Maintain equipment in good order and report issues to supervisor.
• Be ready and available to work when on-duty and respond to dispatch messages.
• Notify dispatch of availability for future assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

• Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
• Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing.
• Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
• Follows phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
• Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients.
• Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner.
• Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments.
• Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work.
• Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Must have current clinical Licensure, if required by State.
• Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
• Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures.
• Must have a current and valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance.
• Must possess access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records.
• Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care and patient right to refuse.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English Language.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
