Job summary

Diagnostic Laboratories & Radiology is seeking a phlebotomist to travel to client facilities, primarily nursing homes, collecting blood samples while adhering to safety and identification protocols. You will label specimens accurately and coordinate with dispatch and lab teams to ensure timely processing.

Applicants must hold current phlebotomy licensure (CPT) and demonstrate strong English communication, with reliable transport to meet daily driving requirements in West Sacramento, CA.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and tourniquet application.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) in your personal vehicle or as arranged.
  • Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples.
  • Identify patients according to policy prior to drawing.
  • Label specimens correctly with requisitions and billing info.
  • Transport PHI according to policy.
  • Plan draw schedule with patient priority in mind.
  • Maintain accurate time sheets and logs.
  • Coordinate with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier teams.
  • Keep equipment in good working order and report issues promptly.
  • Be available to respond to dispatch, and notify availability for future assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Job description

Pay based on experience starting at 19.00 to 22.00

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/ Area Lead.
  • Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
  • Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing.
  • Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
  • Follows phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
  • Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients.
  • Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner.
  • Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments.
  • Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
  • When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work.
  • Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have current clinical Licensure, if required by State.
  • Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
  • Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
  • Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures.
  • Must have a current and valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
  • Must possess access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
  • Must maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records.
  • Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care and patient right to refuse.
  • Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
  • Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English Language.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
