Job summary

American Family Insurance seeks a Mobile iOS Engineer to join the Mobile team, supporting Omni‑Channel strategy and delivering a high‑quality digital experience for policyholders. You will enable and improve self‑service functionality to drive adoption, retention, and customer satisfaction.

The role offers a flex office/home arrangement with up to 5% travel; relocation support is provided for eligible candidates, with Madison, WI or Boston, MA as potential locations.

Qualifications

  • Experience developing customer‑driven iOS applications using Swift.
  • Proficient with MVVM and MVC architectures.
  • Experience integrating REST APIs and third‑party SDKs.
  • Translate feature requirements and design into maintainable iOS code.
  • Knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and App Store release processes.
  • Commit to quality: unit tests (XCTest) and code reviews.

Job Overview

The Mobile iOS Engineer is part of the Mobile team that supports American Family’s Omni‑Channel strategy by delivering a consistent, high‑quality digital experience for customers. In this role you will enable and improve self‑service functionality for policyholders, driving adoption, retention, and overall customer experience.

Job Details

Flex office/home role: expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from Madison, WI (53783) or Boston, MA (02110). Travel requirements up to 5%. No sponsorship is considered. Compensation range: $80,000 – $131,000 (salary). Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Design and develop solutions that meet quality requirements and internal controls.
  • Identify system dependencies, functionality, integration points, and impact of changes to supporting applications.
  • Recommend and follow through on options to address system needs.
  • Document design decisions, estimating assumptions, code modules, and performance metrics as required.
  • Define, conduct, and/or participate in testing, including unit and system integration tests.
  • Collaborate with others to verify requirements through effective system flow, data usage, and manual or automated processes.
  • Ensure software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security.
  • Participate in team activities and take on additional work tasks to help the team achieve desired outcomes or goals.
  • Create, maintain, and/or enhance system documentation as needed.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience developing customer‑driven iOS applications using Swift.
  • Proficient in applying iOS application architecture patterns such as MVVM and MVC to build scalable, maintainable code.
  • Experienced integrating with REST APIs and third‑party SDKs.
  • Translating feature requirements and design mockups into functional and maintainable iOS code.
  • Solid knowledge of the mobile development lifecycle, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, and App Store release process.
  • Commitment to quality: writing unit tests (XCTest), participating in code reviews, and debugging effectively in Xcode.
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience with Airship, Optimizely, ForgeRock.
  • Interest in mobile observability and performance work such as launch‑time optimization, main‑thread profiling, and crash triage.
  • Background in regulated industries (insurance, fintech, healthcare).
