Job summary

Midwest Peterbilt Group seeks a Mobile Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks in the field. You will work with OEM diagnostic software, operate a mobile service unit, and ensure uptime for customers across the Iowa region.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, diesel technology training or equivalent experience, and 2+ years of field repair experience. Strong diagnostic skills and customer communication are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical school or diesel technology training required or equivalent experience (minimum of 2 years heavy-duty truck repair experience).
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills required, including diagnostic software, mobile technology, and service systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repairs on heavy-duty trucks and equipment in the field.
• Inspect, test, and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues independently.
• Determine whether repairs can be completed in the field or require shop service.
• Utilize OEM diagnostic software, tools, and mobile service equipment.
• Test vehicles and components before and after repairs to verify proper operation.
• Operate and maintain mobile service truck/van at customer locations.
• Perform routine maintenance, safety inspections, and annual inspections in the field.
• Maintain proper inventory of parts, fluids, and supplies on the mobile unit.
• Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
• Adapt to varying job sit conditions and customer environments.
• Communicate repair status, concerns, and updates to Shop Foreman or Service Manager.
• Communicate directly with customers regarding repairs, timelines, and findings.
• Provide professional service and represent the Company in the field.
• Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately and timely.
• Coordinate with Service Manager or Shop Foreman on complex repairs or support needs.
• Maintain strong customer relationships through reliable service.
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized mobile work environment.
• Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
• Maintain awareness of environmental and safety hazards.
• Participate in required training and certification programs.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Company and regulatory standards.
