Job summary

CN is seeking a field technician to inspect, service, repair and overhaul heavy equipment used for railway infrastructure. The role ensures equipment safety, reliability, and compliance with regulations and CN standards.

The incumbent will diagnose diesel, hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems, perform repairs, and operate service trucks. Extensive field work and travel are required, with some nights away from home and hands‑on training provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Journeyman status or recognized qualification in heavy‑duty equipment or related trade.
• Experience inspecting, servicing, diagnosing, repairing or overhauling heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain, repair and overhaul work equipment including heavy‑duty maintenance‑of‑way equipment.
• Diagnose diesel engine, hydraulic, electrical and electronic system malfunctions and complete required repairs.
• Use welding, lubrication, diagnostic devices and other repair tools safely and effectively.
