Job summary

Shermco Industries, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and repair on distribution systems and equipment at customer sites.

You will travel locally and regionally to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and collect data on low, medium, and high voltage systems with a focus on safety and accuracy. The role requires 2+ years in switchgear testing, NETA certification (or training in progress), strong PC skills, and the ability to work

Qualifications

• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
• Prefer an Associate’s degree from a technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, or equivalent military training.
• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired.
• Must have at least 2+ years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
• Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB experience a plus.
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to electrical safety procedures.
• Preferred OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training; training on each can be provided by Shermco.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage electrical systems.
• Perform instrument transformer tests.
• Conduct power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.).
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid state relays.
• Carry out cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches (ATS).
• Test low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
