Job description

We are seeking an experienced Mobile Diesel Technician to join our transportation fleet maintenance team. This position is responsible for performing on-site maintenance and repairs on road tractors, trailers, and related equipment. The technician will respond to roadside service calls and perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs to keep our fleet safe, reliable, and operating efficiently.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-focused technician who can work independently, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems, and provide professional service in a mobile environment. Exact hours vary.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on tractors and trailers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic systems.
  • Diagnose and repair air brake systems, ABS, and other braking components.
  • Perform repairs to suspension, steering, cooling, fuel, and exhaust systems.
  • Repair and replace trailer components including brakes, lights, wiring, air systems, doors, landing gear, and suspension components.
  • Respond to roadside breakdowns and emergency service calls.
  • Perform mobile repairs safely and efficiently at customer locations, terminals, truck stops, and roadside locations.
  • Conduct DOT-related inspections and identify safety-related defects.
  • Complete maintenance and repair documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly equipped service vehicle.
  • Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and applicable environmental requirements.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and understand service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical information.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in completing paperwork and maintaining record
  • Commitment to safety, professionalism, and customer service excellence.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Knowledge of transportation laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience working on heavy-duty trucks, road tractors, trailers, or diesel equipment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle systems.
  • Experience with air brakes and ABS systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting 12V/24V electrical systems.
Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to handle the steering wheel and other controls is crucial for safe driving.
  • Must be able to see clearly and hear adequately to react to road conditions, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
  • Must be capable of handling themselves on the road, protecting themselves, passengers, and other drivers.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

This is a mobile position requiring travel to various locations to service company equipment. Work may be performed at fleet facilities, customer locations, truck stops, parking areas, and roadside locations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
