Position Summary
Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered tractors and trailers at various locations. Perform routine maintenance, leverage advanced diagnostic tools, and ensure each vehicle meets quality standards. Work independently while collaborating with a dedicated team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diesel repair and maintenance: diagnose and repair diesel engines on tractors and trailers to meet industry standards; conduct routine maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks; utilize advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues.
- Vehicle inspections and quality assurance: perform comprehensive quality inspections to verify repair accuracy and service integrity; utilize diagnostic equipment to test and validate vehicle components; maintain meticulous records of repairs, parts used, and service history.
- Equipment and tool management: own and maintain a complete set of personal tools; stay updated on the latest diesel repair technologies; ensure repair equipment is properly calibrated and in optimal condition.
- Customer service and communication: provide clear, professional explanations to fleet managers and drivers regarding repair status and recommendations; deliver prompt and reliable service in a high-demand setting; collaborate with team members to prioritize service calls and optimize scheduling.
- Time and deadline management: manage service appointments to meet tight deadlines; adapt to unexpected repairs and emergency calls; update scheduling systems and document work progress.
Qualifications
- Education and training: High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical training or a degree in automotive technology is preferred.
- Experience: minimum of 3 years in diesel engine maintenance and repair; proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and modern repair tools.
- Technical skills: strong mechanical aptitude; knowledge of diesel engine systems and related technologies; familiarity with electronic diagnostic devices and computerized maintenance systems.
- Personal attributes: ability to work independently and in a team; excellent communication and customer service skills; high attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks; adaptability to a fast-paced environment and deadlines.
- Licenses and certifications: valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; reliable transportation; willingness to invest in and maintain a personal set of essential tools.
- Availability: flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and emergency calls; on-call availability for 5 to 6 days per week.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay structure: base pay is performance-driven and based on availability and hours billed; annual earnings range between $70,000 and $130,000 with a minimum guarantee of $800 per week; commission structure for exceeding performance targets.
