Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced diesel/tractor and trailer technician in Birmingham, AL to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Class 8 trucks and trailers. The role requires performing preventative maintenance, writing precise work orders, and delivering quality customer service.

You will inspect and repair brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems, service tires, and ensure DOT safety requirements are met.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of verified commercial tractor and trailer repair experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 100+ pounds.
  • Basic computer skills to submit repairs for billing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Basic reading and writing skills to complete customer repair orders.
  • Welding experience and certification are a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and technical school degree are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Class 8 commercial tractors and trailers.
  • Write detailed work orders for mobile road calls and/or in-yard work.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair semi-truck and trailer bodies, systems, and components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on fleet semi-trucks and trailers.
  • Maintain hubs and axles and adjust or replace them when required.
  • Inspect, service, and replace tractor and trailer parts, including tires.
  • Check and repair brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Test systems and equipment for performance issues.
  • Ensure trailers meet U.S. Department of Transportation road safety requirements.
  • Compile inspection reports, document repairs, and report findings to management.
  • Respond to client queries as soon as possible
