Job summary

Cox is seeking a Mobile Diesel Technician II to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on light to heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field setting. The role requires driving a company service truck, diagnosing systems, and maintaining tools and documentation.

Responsibilities

Job description

Mobile Diesel Technician II – Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment, including those listed above.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to confirm proper operation.
  • Identify problems, assess the accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment in the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards, upload pictures and parts used in Repair Orders using the iOS TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work independently and manage personal daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily inspections.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least three (3) years of experience in a related field (alternative: a higher degree or five (5) years of experience is acceptable).
  • At least three (3) years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
  • Must successfully complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a current DOT medical card with at least four (4) months remaining).
  • Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Compensation

Hourly pay rate is $32.07 – $48.13 per hour. Base rate may vary by location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation (commission, incentive programs) may be available.
