This role is for the Mobile Diesel and Trailer Technician Level II position at Cox Fleet, a Cox Automotive company specializing in mobile on‑site fleet maintenance.

Position Summary

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and follow‑up repairs, diagnostics, and related duties while working independently in a mobile/field environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including, but not limited to, Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including, but not limited to, Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work per company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using iOS devices and the TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or approach standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination such as a higher degree or certification plus experience.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or provide an acceptable DOT medical card.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Hold a valid state driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Maintain ASE T8 (PMI), T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), and 608/609 certifications.
  • Understand application of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making.
  • Physical capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, walk for long periods, and perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Communicate succinctly and effectively in two‑way conversations.
  • Determine required tools and equipment accurately.
  • Accurately judge relative distances of objects.
  • Use logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions and approaches to problems.
