Description
Job Description: The Mobile Crisis Response Peer Recovery Specialist role is to support others in recovery from a SMI and/or substance use disorder. The Peer Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and be a motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapses and promote long-term recovery.
Role and Responsibilities
- Will share personal, practical experience and firsthand knowledge and insight for the benefit of the client and the treatment team.
- Serve as a mentor to clients to promote hope and empowerment in treatment.
- Participate in team meetings and treatment plan review meetings.
- Provide support, encouragement, and assistance with managing daily life activities.
- Act as an advocate for client treatment, participation in community programming, understanding rights, mediation, conflict resolution, etc.
- Schedule may be a swing shift. Hours will vary due to being part of mobile crisis unit.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of paid volunteer or work experience with adults with substance use disorders
- Been in Recovery for 1 year.
- Must successfully pass background checks and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of visiting consumers in their homes or the community, which may not be handicapped accessible.
- Must have knowledge and ability to manage their own mental illness and must be well established in their individual recovery.
Special Requirements
- Valid driver’s license in the state of KY and dependable transportation
- Be able to access numerous locations including consumer homes and schools in the Buffalo Trace area.
- Able to work flexible hours.
- Must undergo certification and training to maintain professional status.
- Must seek continuous professional development training in order to maintain professional status and meet Medicaid and/or SIAC requirements through Opportunities for Family Leadership within the Department for Mental Health/Mental Retardation Services
