The Missouri Department of Corrections is hiring a Correctional Officer assigned to the Mobile Custody Team with statewide travel, based at Farmington Correctional Center, Farmington, MO.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security in buildings/towers/posts; intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders.
• Supervise movement of offenders inside/outside the facility; conduct counts; search for contraband; escort/transport offenders.
• Supervise offenders in housing units, during work activities and recreational/religious activities; supervise visits and search visitors/buildings/grounds for contraband.
• Inspect for health and safety hazards; prepare reports on offender violations and observed deficiencies; discuss issues with offenders; promote rehabilitation.
• Perform other related work as assigned.

Job description

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.

This is a Correctional Officer position that is assigned to Mobile Custody Team and requires extensive travel statewide.

This position will have an official domicile at the Farmington Correctional Center in Farmington, MO. However, this position will be required to travel to DAI facilities across the state of Missouri to assist with staffing needs as approved by the respective Deputy Division Director. This position is eligible for retention/longevity pay, shift differential and overtime pay in accordance with departmental policy D2-8.4 Compensatory Time and Office of Administration’s Division of Personnel Differential Pay Guidelines.

While on assignment, Mobile Custody Team Officers will be provided a state vehicle for transportation to and from the assisted facility, provided lodging while travelling and will be reimbursed for meals that are not provided by the institution or hotel. Mobile Custody Team Officers will be required to carpool in the state vehicle and may be required to reside with a roommate while travelling.

• Candidates will be expected to maintain security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders. This position will also supervise movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility; conduct periodic counts of offenders; search offenders and their living quarters for contraband; escort/transport offenders to predetermined locations. Candidates will be expected to supervise offenders: in housing units; during the performance of work activities; and during recreational/religious activities as well as supervises visits with offenders; and search visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband.
• The candidate will be expected to conduct inspections for health and safety hazards; prepare/submit reports on offender violations of divisional or correctional facility rules/unusual offender behaviors/observed mechanical deficiencies/security breaches or failures. In addition, the candidate will be expected to discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders; refer serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; and promote rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender’s social attitudes/discouraging undesirable behaviors/encouraging worthwhile activities.
• This position will perform other related work as assigned.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Special Requirements

• 1. Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• 2. Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

By assignment, a position may require:

• 1. Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• 2. Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
