Job summary

SSAB Group in Sharon is seeking a press brake operator to set up, program, and operate bending machinery for metal plates and sheets. You will read blueprints, select tooling, and adjust settings to meet exact specifications, while inspecting output for quality and adhering to safety protocols.

Ideal candidates have 1–2+ years of experience in metal fabrication, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work under deadlines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2+ years operating press brake machines in manufacturing or metal fabrication.
• Familiarity with quality control procedures and ability to inspect finished products.
• Willingness to undergo training and continue education to stay updated with new techniques.
• Completion of the established Skill Pie per location.

• Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools such as caliper and micrometer.
• Forklift and crane experience preferred.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities

• Set up and operate press brake machines to bend and shape metal plates and sheets.

• Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production schedules to determine the required specifications for each job.

• Select the appropriate tooling, dies, and machinery settings for each bending operation.

• Position metal plates and sheets onto the press brake machine and accurately align them according to the specified measurements.

• Adjust machine settings such as speed, pressure, and depth to ensure precise bending and shaping of the metal.

• Monitor the operation of the press brake machine, making necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.

• Inspect finished products to ensure they meet the required specifications, dimensions, and quality standards.

• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of press brake machines to ensure optimal performance and prevent malfunctions.

• Troubleshoot and resolve minor machine issues or notify the maintenance department for repairs.

• Follow all company safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• 1 - 2+ years of experience operating press brake machines in a manufacturing or metal fabrication setting.

• Familiarity with quality control procedures and the ability to perform inspections on finished products.

• Willingness to undergo training and continuing education to stay updated with new techniques and technologies in press brake operations.

• Completion of the established Skill Pie per location.

• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized.

• Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer etc.); ability to operate light equipment, good knowledge of mechanical devices.

• Previous crane and forklift experience preferred.

• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.

• Ability to work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Technical Degree, or an equivalent combination of education & experience

• 3 - 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience as a press brake operator in a manufacturing or metal fabrication setting.

• Welder certification

• Crane certification

Working conditions

Travel 10% of time for meetings at other SSAB locations, deliveries, trainings, seminars & conferences as needed.

Physical requirements

• Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, provincial and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
