Job summary

IHA in Des Moines, Iowa, is seeking a skilled clinical laboratory professional to join our day shift team. You will perform and interpret routine laboratory tests, manage specimens, and support QA activities to ensure patient care excellence.

Requires a bachelor's degree in a science-related field, 4 years of lab experience, and MLS/MT certification. Excellent communication, organization, and regulatory knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field.
  • Four years of clinical laboratory experience required.
  • Certification in MLS/MT or MT AMT.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a resource for technical personnel and responds to workplace questions and concerns.
  • Assists with new employee orientation and training, instrument implementation, monitoring instrument maintenance, safety policy compliance, reviewing quality control, and auditing quality assurance activities including proficiency survey submissions.
  • Oversees education, procedure manuals, research and development, and advanced troubleshooting of instrumentation.
  • Performs technical tasks vital for diagnosis and treatment of disease as appropriate for patient age.
  • Obtains, receives or processes laboratory specimens.
  • Performs, interprets clinical laboratory testing.
  • Understands and performs preventive maintenance.
  • Promotes initiatives of the laboratory or organization to co-workers.
  • Participates in teaching peers and students
  • Performs error correction procedures and monitors resolution of errors.
  • Works independently, organizing work to meet deadlines and records and reports data obtained.
  • Assists manager in performance appraisal process.
  • Verifies and identifies yearly competencies for staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field.
  • Four years of clinical laboratory experience required:
  • Certification in one of the following:
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and regulatory standards and regulations required.
