Job description

Summary:

Performs clinical testing in assigned sections such as general laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology, ensuring accurate and timely results through quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, and equipment maintenance. Recognizes abnormal critical values and follows proper notification protocols. Handles clerical, general, and phlebotomy duties related to daily laboratory operations. Provides and dispenses blood products as requested by medical staff.

Responsibilities:
  1. Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  2. Ensure that the company's philosophy and core values are reflected in customer service.
  3. Specimen Collection/Handling/Processing: Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture and/or fingerstick, accurately identify and label; operate pneumatic tube system; process and test specimens according to procedures.
  4. Result Reporting: Recognize errors or improbable results, report critical values per policy, perform tests within established timeframes across various sections, and operate laboratory analyzers.
  5. Perform, analyze, and record quality control following relevant guidelines, and document performance improvement indicators.
  6. Conduct daily and periodic preventative maintenance, troubleshoot minor issues, order supplies, and review policies.
  7. Pursue professional growth and assist in training new staff and students.
  8. Follow all relevant standards and protocols for safety, infection control, and compliance.
  9. Utilize LIS and HIS systems appropriately for testing, charging, and reporting results.
  10. Complete annual competency assessments.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills:

Associate's Degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, or equivalent training per CLIA regulations. Alternatively, military medical laboratory training or specific coursework with laboratory training are acceptable.

Experience:

No experience required for graduates of accredited training programs. Six months of approved clinical laboratory experience including rotations in key laboratory sections is also acceptable.

Licenses/Certifications:

State licensure in Louisiana required. New graduates must be Board Certified or eligible within one year of hire (Louisiana excluded).

Work Schedule:

PRN, Per Diem as Needed.
