Description:
Supports CLIA-Moderately Complex Testing Laboratories in the Des Moines Metro area (Ankeny, Clive, Pleasant Hill, Indianola). Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy and laboratory tests such as CBC, urinalysis, and Flu/COVID testing.
Responsibilities
- Support CLIA-Moderately Complex Testing Laboratory at Pleasant Hill Clinic/Urgent Care
- Perform phlebotomy and laboratory tests including CBC, urinalysis, and Flu/COVID testing
- Work hours vary between 6:30 am - 6 pm (Monday-Friday) and 7:30 am - 1 pm (Saturday-Sunday)
- Identify patients accurately prior to specimen collection using two patient identifiers as per laboratory policy
- Perform patient registration related to requested laboratory testing if needed
- Analyze biological specimens independently as trained and according to laboratory procedures
- Monitor the collection, transportation, storage, identification, and processing of specimens to ensure integrity before testing
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
- Recognize deviations from expected results, analyze issues, and correct problems following laboratory policies
- Perform quality control at established intervals, monitor results, and take corrective actions to ensure test accuracy and precision
- Assist with the implementation and training of new instruments or procedures
- Support quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives
- Organize work independently to meet deadlines and record-keeping requirements
- Follow safety and infection control policies, reporting hazards to management
- Maintain supply inventories
- Participate in training new employees
- Operate laboratory information systems and related software
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients
