Qualifications

  • Experience: MLT in Training for 3 months to 1 year, paid, in the same field. Part-time/PRN prorated; volunteer/internships not counted.
  • Certifications & Licensures: within 6 months, training in at least one department; within 1 year, ASCP certification and qualification to move to an MLT position.

Job Description: MLT In Training

Job Summary Performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by performing required duties and responsibilities.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids to determine normal and abnormal components.
  • Analyzes and verifies test results before releasing findings.
  • Performs quality control studies and routine preventative maintenance according to protocols.
  • Conducts equipment checks as scheduled.
  • Performs STAT testing within established turnaround guidelines.
  • Responds to queries from hospital care team members courteously and promptly.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new laboratory employees.
  • Maintains professional growth and required certification.
  • Reports equipment or computer malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either - 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include- Six semester hours of chemistry; and Six semester hours of biology; and Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.

Experience Requirement MLT in Training position will be for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 1 year. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.

Certifications & Licensures Within 6 months, the candidate must complete training in at least one department within the laboratory. Within 1 year, the candidate must obtain ASCP certification and meet qualifications to move to an MLT position.

Also involves intermittent risk of back injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; intermittent risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; intermittent exposure to cuts or punctures; intermittent exposure to radiation; and occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, bloodborne or airborne pathogens, burns, temperature extremes, loud noises, working in confined spaces, and combative or violent people. Occasional job-related travel may also be required.
