Job Summary Performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by performing required duties and responsibilities.
Education Requirement 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either - 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include- Six semester hours of chemistry; and Six semester hours of biology; and Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
Experience Requirement MLT in Training position will be for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 1 year. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures Within 6 months, the candidate must complete training in at least one department within the laboratory. Within 1 year, the candidate must obtain ASCP certification and meet qualifications to move to an MLT position.
Physical Demands This position requires regular standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; intermittent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; intermittent standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds; intermittent sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with repetitive motions. Also involves intermittent risk of back injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; intermittent risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; intermittent exposure to cuts or punctures; intermittent exposure to radiation; and occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, bloodborne or airborne pathogens, burns, temperature extremes, loud noises, working in confined spaces, and combative or violent people. Occasional job-related travel may also be required.
