Job summary

The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an MLS Supervisor (Clinical Care/Specialized Services Supervisor) to ensure the smooth, the smooth, efficient operation of a clinical laboratory unit or shift. Performs clinical laboratory analyses on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease.

This 100%-time, 1st shift, Monday-Friday position will lead other laboratory professionals, troubleshoot procedures,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited college/university.
• At least 4 years clinical laboratory experience within the past five years.
• At least 2 years of experience with high complexity testing.
• At least 1 year of experience performing testing using molecular pathology methods.
• Certification as MLS/MLT or ASCP specialist in appropriate laboratory discipline.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to lead teams on projects or policy updates.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary in-house supervisory staff member for assigned section and Core Services.
• Communicate project statuses to appropriate others and manage customer expectations effectively.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses on clinical and research specimens.
• Serve as the technical expert for patient test result interpretation and procedures.
• Perform assigned bench duties and maintain technical competency.
• Provide direct supervision of assigned personnel.
