Job summary

Orlando Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist II for the Free Standing Emergency Department at Longwood in Florida. The MLS II evaluates, analyzes blood and body fluids, and assists in interpreting results using automated and manual methods in a fast-paced lab environment.

Ideal candidates hold a Florida Medical Technologist license, ASCP/AAB/AMT certifications preferred, and have internship training plus at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; substitution with Associate’s degree plus 2 years related experience allowed.
• Successful completion of an approved clinical laboratory training internship.
• Current Florida license as Medical Technologist or eligible in required specialties.
• National Certification (ASCP/AAB/AMT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates specimens for quality and preanalytical errors.
• Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
• Performs quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
• Works semi-autonomously to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Maintains inventory and assists with supply management.
• Communicates critical results to patient caregivers.
• Trains new team members and students.
