Job summary

HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke's in Denver seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join the Apheresis and Cellular Therapy team. This role blends laboratory expertise with direct patient care in support of hematopoietic stem cell and cellular therapies.

The MLS-Apheresis Specialist performs collections, ensures quality, and documents procedures while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and transplant teams. On-call and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Scientist certification by ASCP, NCA, or HEW (ISCLT). BLS required.
• Education: B.A. or B.S. in Medical Technology or related field (Chemistry, Biology, etc.) preferred.
• Experience: Phlebotomy, therapeutic apheresis, stem cell collection, bone marrow harvest, cell processing/cryopreservation desired but not necessary.
• Special Qualifications: Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and health care team; ability to manage a team; strong critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC), mononuclear cell (MNC), and other cellular collections using apheresis technology.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain apheresis equipment and laboratory instrumentation.
• Monitor collection parameters and product quality during procedures.
• Ensure compliance with FACT, AABB, FDA, CAP, and institutional standards.
• Accurately document procedures, product records, deviations, and quality events.
• Participate in quality management activities, audits, corrective actions, and process improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support transplant and cellular therapy patients.
• Provide patient education and support before, during, and after apheresis procedures.
• Participate in on-call, weekend, and holiday coverage as required.
