Job summary

Ema is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer in California to join a fast-growing startup building AI Employees for HR, IT, and Finance. You will design, train, and deploy NLP and retrieval-based models, with emphasis on large language models and agent-based systems, driving impact across recruiting, onboarding, and operations.

You will work on end-to-end ML model lifecycles, apply A/B testing, and collaborate with a fast-paced team to ship production systems that scale.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field.
• At least 2 years of industry experience in building and deploying production-level machine learning models.
• Deep understanding and practical experience with NLP techniques and frameworks, including training and inference of large language models.
• Deep understanding of retrieval, ranking, reinforcement learning, and agent-based systems and experience in how to build them for large systems.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with ML libraries such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, develop, and deploy ML models underpinning NLP, retrieval, ranking, reasoning, dialog and code-generation systems.
• Implement advanced ML algorithms, such as Transformer-based models, reinforcement learning, ensemble learning, and agent-based systems to improve AI performance.
• Process and analyze large, complex datasets and use findings to inform model development.
• Work across the complete lifecycle of ML model development from problem definition to deployment.
• Implement A/B testing and statistical methods to validate model effectiveness; develop automated testing and validation processes.
• Communicate technical workings and benefits of ML models to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
