Role Description The ML/ELL Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based in Chicago, IL, responsible for supporting multilingual and English language learner students. This role involves designing and implementing instructional supports, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with teachers to ensure effective language development strategies in the classroom. The coordinator will oversee compliance with relevant state and federal regulations, manage assessments, and maintain accurate documentation related to ML/ELL services. Daily responsibilities include coaching staff on best practices, facilitating professional development, communicating with families about student progress, and partnering with school leadership to align ML/ELL programming with broader academic goals. The ML/ELL Coordinator will also contribute to program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts to better serve emerging bilingual students.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in multilingual/ELL instruction, including language acquisition strategies, sheltered instruction, and differentiation for diverse learners.
  • Experience with assessment and data practices, such as interpreting language proficiency scores, tracking student growth, and using data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to coach educators, lead trainings, and build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations related to ML/ELL programs, including documentation, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field; advanced degree or specialized coursework in ESL, bilingual education, or linguistics is preferred.
  • Teaching certification or licensure appropriate to the role, with ESL, bilingual, or related endorsement strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in K–12 or secondary education settings, ideally within urban or charter school environments.
  • Commitment to educational equity, culturally responsive practices, and inclusive support for students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
