Job summary

CarMax is seeking an Engineer II, ML & AI Engineering to build and operate scalable machine learning capabilities across the organization. You will partner with Data Scientists to productionize models and develop reliable inference services, focusing on testing, monitoring, scalability, and operational excellence.

You will work with a strong software and cloud engineering foundation to transform ML innovations into mission-critical features that power CarMax’s iconic customer experiences,

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years in software/ML engineering with production deployments.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or C# and ML frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production ML capabilities across feature engineering, training, evaluation, deployment, and inference.
• Design agentic AI systems, including tooling, orchestration, memory, and observability for production reliability.
• Own operational health: monitoring data drift, model performance, and incident response end to end.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to translate experiments into production-grade code.
• Transform ML models into mission-critical, high-visibility capabilities with product teams.
• Demonstrate passion for Data Science and ML, driving ongoing innovation.
