Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA seeks a Stress Analyst to apply physics-based methods to complex spacecraft structures, delivering safe, reliable hardware within cost and schedule. You will work on static and dynamic analyses, FE modeling with FEMAP/NASTRAN/Matlab, and collaborate across teams to ensure mission success.

A passion for spaceflight and quality is required. The role includes hands-on testing, data interpretation from ground and flight tests, and opportunities to influence design

Qualifications

  • Ability to solve static and dynamic structural problems using physics-based analytical methods.
  • Interpretation of ground and flight test data for structural validation.
  • Modeling and verification of spacecraft launch, in-space burns, and landing events.

Responsibilities

  • Solve static and dynamic structural problems using physics-based analytical methods.
  • Interpret acceleration, shock, and vibration data from tests.
  • Develop and validate finite element models; correlate to tests.
  • Develop general loads for spacecraft and ground systems.
  • Support configuration development and trade studies.
  • Utilize Femap, NASTRAN, and Matlab for analyses.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Ability to solve a variety of static and dynamic structural problems using physics-based analytical methods (hand calculations, in-house tools, and 3rd party commercial analytical tools)
  • Acceleration, shock, and vibration measurement and data interpretation of ground and flight tests
  • Modeling, simulation, and verification of spacecraft launch, in-space burns, and landing events
  • Finite Element Model development, refinement, validation, and correlation to tests
  • General loads development for spacecraft and related ground systems
  • Solid foundation of structural static/dynamic fundamentals
  • Support configuration development and trade studies
  • Femap, NASTRAN, and Matlab proficiency
