Job summary

The Osborne Association is hiring a Mitigation Specialist to conduct detailed biopsychosocial assessments and advocate in pre-plea and pre-sentence matters. The role requires LMSW licensure and will involve in-person court appearances with flexible in-person/remote work as needed.

Salary is $70,000–$72,000 per year with a hybrid schedule and DOE. Clearance by the NYC Department of Correction is required to work on Rikers Island and other facilities.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, or similar field.
• Experience conducting investigations and writing court reports such as Pre-Plea and Pre-Sentence Memorandums is required.
• Experience with clients with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders is needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client intakes and assessments with clients in detention via videoconference, establishing rapport.
• Screen interested individuals to obtain information for case solicitation and verify court records and dates.
• Provide psychosocial assessments to support defense counsel and develop service plans.
• Advocate to Court, DAO, DOP, and other entities, both orally and in writing.
• Maintain client progress documentation and reports for the Court and supervising agencies.
