Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory seeks a Technical Engineering Project Manager to lead day-to-day execution of complex projects within Mission Systems. You will serve as the nexus between technology and operations, delivering integrated solutions for DoD-sponsored programs on-site at State College, PA.

Ideal candidates have strong engineering fundamentals, solid project management skills, and experience coordinating cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher and 6+ years of relevant experience; equivalent combos accepted.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management fundamentals.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams in a research/DoD environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership and oversight for technical projects or defined workstreams within larger, complex programs.
  • Define, maintain, and monitor project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables for successful execution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional engineering, operations, and support teams to align resources.
  • Develop and deliver technical project status reports, updates, and briefings to sponsors.
  • Coordinate and support technical reviews, design milestones, system integration efforts.
  • Monitor project performance metrics, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead configuration management and change-control activities for evolving requirements and baselines.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, resource plans, and work breakdown structures.
  • Oversee project documentation and sponsor reviews, technical evaluations, and audits.
  • Support transition of research into development, demonstration, and field-ready systems.
  • Contribute to proposals, project planning, and new business opportunities as needed.
