Job summary

Job Overview

HII Mission Technologies is seeking talented engineers in Roanoke, VA to lead a team performing reverse engineering tasks on existing products, encode discoveries into our codebase, and develop algorithms to automate time‑consuming tasks within reverse engineering domain. Candidates will work on hardware description languages, embedded instruction architectures, high‑level software development languages, formal verification tools, and more.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Lead reverse engineering efforts into systems of interest.
  • Mentor junior engineers throughout reverse engineering and development processes.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, demonstrating ability to architect maintainable solutions to complex problems.
  • Collaborate with teammates on new ideas and accept constructive feedback through the code review process.
  • Implement algorithms created by hardware engineers or from academic sources with limited documentation.
Minimum Qualifications

Level 2: 2 years relevant experience with a Bachelors in a related field, or 0 years with a Masters in a related field, or High School Diploma + 6 years relevant experience.

Level 3: 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelors in a related field, or 3 years with a Masters in a related field, or High School Diploma + 9 years.

Level 4: 9 years relevant experience with a Bachelors, or 7 years with a Masters, or High School Diploma + 13 years.

Level 5: 15 years relevant experience with a Bachelors, or 13 years with a Masters, or High School Diploma + 19 years.

All levels require: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD security clearance; extensive experience with object‑oriented programming languages (C++, Java, Python); exposure to basic logic gates and Boolean math; ability to learn new skills quickly.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active security clearance.
  • Experience with modern C++ standards (C++17) and STL.
  • Experience with Python.
  • Demonstrated use of design patterns.
  • Experience in software development processes (Agile, TDD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Verilog or VHDL.
  • Experience with FPGA design software (Quartus, ISE, Vivado).
  • Experience with software reverse engineering tools (IDA Pro, Ghidra, Binary Ninja).
  • Proficiency with source control systems (git, svn, Perforce).
  • Experience with the code review process.
  • Experience with binary patching.
  • Experience bypassing encryption schemes (power glitching, side‑channel attacks).
  • Published research in cybersecurity, software exploitation, or reverse engineering.
