Embedded Software Analysis Engineer (Mid/Senior) - 29115

Anticipated Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $180,000.00

Security Clearance: Ability to Obtain

Level of Experience: Mid

This position resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. The role focuses on reverse engineering microelectronic and application software, firmware extraction, plugin development, and adding support to simulation platforms for unsupported processors. Candidates will lead a team performing reverse engineering tasks, mentor junior engineers, and produce reports of system capabilities, anomalies, and vulnerabilities. The work requires strong collaboration, clear communication, and the ability to understand complex systems with minimal or no documentation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • United States citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance
  • Experience with software reverse engineering tools (Ghidra, Binary Ninja, IDA Pro, etc.)
  • Experience with software debuggers and simulators (GDB, OllyDbg, Renode, etc.)
  • Rapid learning of new skills
Preferred Requirements
  • Active security clearance
  • Experience with modern C++ standards (C++17 or later) and STL
  • Experience with Python
  • Demonstrated use of design patterns
  • Familiarity with Verilog or VHDL
  • Experience with FPGA design software (Quartus, ISE, Vivado, etc.)
  • Experience with software reverse engineering (IDA Pro, Ghidra, etc.)
  • Proficiency with source control systems (git, svn, perforce, etc.)
  • Experience with the code review process
  • Experience with binary patching
  • Experience bypassing encryption schemes
  • Published research in cybersecurity, software exploitation, or reverse engineering
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary work: ability to remain in a seated position for extended periods while performing computer‑based analysis and reverse engineering tasks.
  • Manual dexterity: ability to use hands for typing, operating tools, manipulating small electronic components, or performing firmware extraction tasks.
  • Visual acuity: ability to view detailed digital information on screens, read technical documentation, examine microelectronic components, and review code or schematics.
  • Occasional standing or walking: moving between workstations, lab benches, or collaborative areas.
  • Light lifting: ability to lift and carry small equipment, electronic boards, laptops, or test devices, typically under 20 pounds.
  • Fine motor skills: required when interacting with microelectronics, connectors, or debugging hardware.
  • Communication abilities: clear verbal and written communication for mentoring, collaborating, and writing reports.
  • Cognitive/mental requirements: high concentration, problem‑solving ability, working with complex systems, and learning new technical skills quickly.
