Job summary

BlackSky is seeking a senior Mission Planning Engineer to develop and track system level requirements for autonomous constellation operations. You will prototype code in Python or Go and help define engineering requirements for imaging, calibration and propulsion tasks, coordinating with software and product teams.

The role requires strong algorithm design experience in satellite imaging and a US citizenship, with remote-friendly options and a competitive salary in Seattle area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in aerospace, mechanical engineering, systems engineering or computer science.
• 6+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience with automation of complex systems (satellite, vehicle fleets, drones, etc.).
• Experience with planning or optimization algorithms and driving requirements to implementation.
• Experience with project management or software product development.
• Working knowledge of Go or Python.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to mission planning product team and coordinate with engineers to plan and execute autonomous constellation operations software features.
• Model, implement, and test concepts of operation for autonomous planning of constellation activities including imaging and calibration.
• Model satellite subsystems using methods compatible with ground software algorithms to support planning functions.
• Translate product concepts to engineering requirements and facilitate reviews among stakeholders.
• Occasional 24/7 support during Launch and Early Operations or Anomaly Response for debugging planning algorithms.
