Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a National Security M&S Analyst to apply mission-level modeling and simulation to national security problems. You will use AFSIM and related tools to analyze concepts, assess performance, and support decision-making in DoD and IC contexts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is required.
• Minimum three years of modeling and simulation experience.
• Experience applying simulation tools to analyze complex systems.
• Familiarity with M&S frameworks (AFSIM, STK, NGTS, STORM, or similar).
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to translate problems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, and execute simulation-based analyses using frameworks like AFSIM.
• Translate operational questions into simulation scenarios and derive insights.
• Evaluate system performance and force interactions in contested environments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate results.
• Document assumptions, methodologies, and results for reproducibility.
