Job summary

Horizon Services, Inc. (HSI) seeks a Controller to partner with the CFO and lead a 7-8 person finance team at a growing nonprofit focused on substance use and mental health treatment across California and New Mexico.

Based in Hayward, CA with a hybrid schedule, the Controller will oversee GAAP/501(c)(3) compliance, manage a $30M+ budget, drive audits and risk management, mentor staff, and serve as a trusted advisor to agency leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3+ years supervising staff.
• Nonprofit budgeting/fiscal management expertise.
• Bachelor’s in Accounting (MBA/CPA a plus).
• A passion for mission-driven work.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions and ensure GAAP/501(c)(3) compliance.
• Manage a $30M+ budget, cash flow, and financial reporting.
• Lead audits, risk management, and process improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and develop a talented finance team.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to agency leadership.
