Job summary

Astranis seeks a Software Engineer for Mission Applications to design, build, and operate mission-critical software that commands, monitors, and coordinates satellites and ground networks. You’ll own features from concept to production, tackling complex engineering problems and collaborating with payload, network, and flight teams.

This role supports both commercial and US Government programs, with emphasis on reliability, scalability, and real-time data processing in a space environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• End-to-end ownership of complex technical problems.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Experience with backend frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, or gRPC).
• Experience with PostgreSQL and data modeling.
• Experience deploying services in production with Linux and Docker.
• Ability to design reliable APIs and event-driven architectures.
• Strong initiative and autonomy in navigating ambiguous problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle of software for satellite commanding, health monitoring, and fleet management.
• Build services/tools coordinating network and payload operations and automated testing.
• Develop analytics/forecasting tools to evaluate satellite and network performance for pre-sales and capacity planning.
• Own features end-to-end from backend architecture to operator interfaces and automation scripts.
• Deliver resilient, high-consequence software workflows that command space vehicles and ground stations.
• Create web-based operator tools for commanding consoles, telemetry visualization, and execution tracking.
• Automate workflows across spacecraft testing, mission rehearsals, on-orbit ops, and anomalies.
• Collaborate with payload/network/system architects and flight operators on requirements and architecture.
