Job summary

constellr is seeking a Mission Control Engineer to operate and scale our Earth Observation satellite constellation in a fast‑paced startup. You will monitor spacecraft performance, run ground segment software, and collaborate with Flight Dynamics, Payload, Software, and Product teams to ensure data reliability and availability for customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 2–3+ years of satellite/spacecraft operations or ground segment/Mission Control development.
  • Solid understanding of spacecraft subsystems (AOCS, power, thermal, comms).
  • Experience with telemetry analysis, command systems, and operational procedures.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot anomalies under time pressure with structured problem-solving.
  • Strong software engineering background in systems programming language (Rust preferred; C/C++ acceptable).
  • Experience developing reliable software for 24/7 operational environments; Linux familiarity.
  • Knowledge of CCSDS/ECSS/PUS standards; strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain mission planning services and algorithms for a growing constellation.
  • Shape architecture for scalable, reliable mission planning systems.
  • Run and monitor mission planning systems in live environments.
  • Define engineering standards for CI/CD, infra-as-code, observability, safety.
  • Collaborate with Flight Operations, Dynamics, Payload, and Product to translate needs into design.
  • Drive CI/CD adoption and robust deployment practices across mission-critical systems.
  • Translate mission requests into executable satellite commands and telecommands.
  • Align mission plans with onboard scheduling and execution constraints.
