Job summary

Andromeda is building the social intelligence layer for humanoid robots. We seek a founding Mission Autonomy engineer to design and implement Abi's long‑duration decision‑making architecture, guiding robot behavior across eight‑hour shifts and coordinating with perception, gestures, and chatbot teams.

You will prototype in simulation, drive architecture from ground up, and ensure safe, reliable operation while scaling Abi across real‑world environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building autonomous systems.
• Deployment lifecycle from concept through deployment and operations.
• Experience with ROS 2, Nav2, and simulation tools such as Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or MuJoCo.
• Awareness of safety‑critical design principles for robots operating around people.
• Strong software engineering skills in Python, C++, or Rust.
• Practical robotics experience including hardware bring‑up and sensor/actuator debugging.
• Strong communication and influence across teams, especially with dispersed groups.
• Architecture and software depth to define interfaces and contracts.

Responsibilities

• Design the Mission Autonomy system architecture and challenge initial concepts.
• Prototype the autonomy loop in simulation early to guide build decisions.
• Co‑design and build simulation capabilities with the simulation engineer.
• Own the technical direction and coordinate with autonomy, chatbot, perception, audio and platform teams.
• Shape and define the action primitives and their interfaces for Abi.
• Design for degradation to keep Abi safe and informative during failures.
• Establish deployment patterns from simulation to demonstrations on Abi.
• Build the evaluation system with benchmarks, scenarios and metrics for long‑horizon missions.
