Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer to develop and apply high-fidelity models for strategic missile systems and hypersonic vehicles. You will work in the Flight Systems Performance group within the Force Projection Sector, performing trade studies, trajectory optimization, and HWIL integration.

You will lead analysis efforts, collaborate with government and contractor partners, and produce reports communicating results.

Qualifications

  • Have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years in modeling and simulation, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, navigation, guidance and control
  • Have experience working with and developing modeling and simulation tools
  • Have familiarity with flight vehicle physics and dynamics
  • Are proficient in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Have experience developing 3 DoF and/or 6DoF simulations
  • Travel occasionally to attend meetings or tests at other government/contractor sites
  • Will be comfortable working in closed area facilities
  • Have an active Secret level security clearance and can obtain Top Secret level clearance; U.S. citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Develop modeling and simulation tools to conduct trade studies, performance assessments, and conceptual design studies of strategic missile systems and hypersonic vehicles
  • Missile test and evaluation activities including test operations and pre/post flight evaluations
  • Lead and contribute to analysis efforts
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to advise government and contractor partners on engineering challenges and design trades
  • Produce reports and presentations to communicate results to team members and government partners
