Job description

The Chicago White Sox are adding a Physical Therapist to our medical team. As a physical therapist at our Arizona location you will interact with field staff, strength & conditioning coaches, sports science staff, team physicians, front office staff and our Minor League Medical Coordinator and Major League Medical Director. Primary responsibilities include providing rehab care to injured athletes throughout the year including Spring Training, the Minor League season, and off-season in Glendale, AZ. This is a full-time, year-round position that does require relocation to the Phoenix area.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure consistent rehab standards and philosophy are always maintained.
  • Accurately evaluate and diagnose baseball injuries and general medical conditions.
  • Create and implement rehabilitation and return to play progressions (i.e., throwing, hitting, running) based on the player’s injury and position within Chicago White Sox protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, Mental Health, and Player Development staff to implement rehabilitation plans and organizational initiatives.
  • Communicate on prognosis and progression of athletes to Minor League Medical Coordinator, Major League Physical Therapist, and Medical Director as appropriate.
  • Document all pertinent health information completely and accurately within the MLB EMR system in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the supervision and mentorship of physical therapy students.
  • Complete various administrative duties and reporting procedures
  • Adhere to Chicago White Sox Organization policies and procedures.
  • Function as a role model within and outside the Chicago White Sox Organization
  • Demonstrate efficient time management skills and an ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism in high stress situations.
  • Actively review and stay up to date with current research.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Physical Therapy; PT/ATC Dual Credential Preferred but not required.
  • PT Licensure in the state of Arizona or Eligible to meet requirements prior to hiring.
  • CPR Certified
  • Prior experience in professional baseball is preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred but not required.

The position will work in an athletic training room, weight room, baseball complex, office, and stadium environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and fax machines. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment. Work is medium in demand. Lifting one hundred pounds maximum with frequent lifting or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to position athletes for examinations and assist them on and off the exam table. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel may be required occasionally to assist with physician appointments and rehab assignments.
