About the Role

Our client, a major mining operation in the Upington, Northern Cape region, requires a dedicated Mining Site Sanitation Coordinator to oversee and manage all aspects of hygiene and sanitation across their extensive site. This role is vital for maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for all personnel, adhering to strict industry regulations and company policies. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing sanitation plans, managing cleaning teams, ensuring the proper disposal of waste, and conducting regular audits. The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial site management or sanitation, a strong understanding of occupational health and safety, and the ability to work effectively in a remote and demanding environment. This is a key position for ensuring operational integrity and employee well-being in the challenging conditions of Upington .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive sanitation and hygiene programs for the mining site.
• Manage and supervise site cleaning staff, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluation.
• Oversee waste management operations, including collection, segregation, and disposal of general and hazardous waste.
• Ensure all ablution facilities, accommodation blocks, and common areas are maintained to high hygiene standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential health hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Procure and manage inventory of cleaning supplies, disinfectants, and sanitation equipment.
• Develop and deliver health and hygiene awareness training to site personnel.
• Liaise with site management, health and safety officers, and external service providers.
• Respond promptly to any sanitation-related incidents or complaints.
• Maintain accurate records of all sanitation activities, waste disposal, and training conducted.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in sanitation management, industrial hygiene, or facilities management, preferably in the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Proven experience in waste management and supervisory roles.
• Strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations relevant to mining operations in Northern Cape .
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and sanitation best practices.
• Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote and challenging environment.
• Proficiency in record-keeping and basic reporting.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to adapt to shift work and varying site conditions.
