Job summary

Perpetua Resources Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Superintendent at the Stibnite Mine near Yellow Pine, Idaho, will lead safety strategy, programs, and regulatory compliance across mining activities. You will partner with operations, supervisors, employees, and contractors to drive a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CRSP, CIH, CMSP, CHST preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive health and safety experience in mining or heavy industry.
  • Minimum 3–5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience with surface and/or underground mining operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated success implementing safety management systems and driving cultural change.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a proactive safety culture where safety is integrated into all operational decisions.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to supervisors and employees on safety expectations.
  • Facilitate behavior-based safety initiatives and workforce engagement programs.
  • Lead site-wide safety campaigns, communications, and recognition programs.
  • Promote visible felt leadership through regular field presence and interactions with employees.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable mining and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and emerging industry standards.
  • Manage inspections, audits, and interactions with regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and standards aligned with legislative requirements.
  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation programs.
  • Oversee critical risk management processes for mining, mobile equipment, explosives, confined spaces, etc.
  • Monitor effectiveness of controls and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Facilitate risk reviews related to operational changes and new projects.
  • Lead investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and high-potential events.
  • Identify root causes and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Analyze safety data and trends to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for site and corporate leadership.
  • Oversee occupational health programs, including exposure monitoring and health surveillance.
  • Manage industrial hygiene initiatives related to dust, noise, vibration, heat stress, chemicals, and other workplace hazards.
  • Coordinate wellness and fitness-for-duty programs.
  • Ensure employee and contractor health programs align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety training programs.
  • Ensure employees and contractors receive required certifications and competency assessments.
  • Support leadership development related to safety management and accountability.
  • Track compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Lead emergency response planning, training, and drills.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure emergency response teams maintain readiness and competency.
  • Evaluate and continuously improve emergency management systems.
  • Oversee contractor qualification, onboarding, and performance management processes.
  • Ensure contractor activities comply with site safety requirements.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Establish and track leading and lagging safety indicators.
  • Develop safety improvement plans and annual objectives.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for site leadership and corporate stakeholders.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.
