Job summary

Walker Lovell is seeking a capable mining engineer to own and drive surface mine planning, design, and optimization. You will serve as the go-to engineering presence on site, influencing safety, efficiency, and output while reporting to senior leadership.

You will lead short- and long-term surface mine plans using CAD tools, oversee drill and blast design, and contribute to pit mapping and slope stability assessments.

Qualifications

• Experience in surface mining with hands-on planning and drill & blast exposure.
• Strong understanding of pit design, geotechnical considerations, and production optimization.
• Degree in mining engineering, geology or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to influence site teams with analytical thinking and problem-solving under demanding conditions.

Responsibilities

• Lead mine planning and design activities to deliver short- and long-term surface mine plans using CAD tools.
• Oversee drill and blast design to optimise fragmentation, safety, and production outcomes.
• Conduct pit mapping, geotechnical monitoring, and slope stability assessments for safe operations.
• Act as a technical point of contact on site, supporting production teams and supervisory duties as required.
