Cherokee Brick & Tile Company is seeking a Mine Truck Driver to safely operate tractor-trailer trucks and, if needed, water trucks for dust control. You will transport clay, shale, and other raw materials from mine stockpiles to designated processing areas while maintaining regulatory compliance and a clean, organized work area.

The role requires pre-operational inspections, routine maintenance, and close coordination with mine personnel to ensure continuous production and material flow.

Job Summary

The Mine Truck Driveris responsible foroperatingandmaintainingtractor trailertrucks used to transport clay, shale, and other raw materials from mine stockpiles todesignatedplant or processing areas. This position supports continuous production by ensuring a reliable supply of raw materials whileoperatingthe truck safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, MSHA regulations, and environmental requirements. The Mine Truck Driver may alsooperatea water truck to control dust on mine roads and other designated areas. This position works closely with mine personnel, production, and maintenance teams tomaintainsafe and efficient mining operations.

Essential Job Functions
  • Ability to operate equipment in order to load dump truck.
  • Operatetractortrailertrucks to safely transport clay, shale, and other raw materials from mine stockpiles todesignatedplant or processing areas.
  • Operate a water truck, as assigned, to control dust on mine roads and other designated areas.
  • Safely load, transport, and dump raw materials in designated locations according to operational requirements.
  • Operate assigned trucks efficiently tomaintaina consistent supply of raw materials while minimizing material loss, delays, and equipment downtime.
  • Work with mine personnel to ensure safe and efficient material movement throughout the mining operation.
  • Maintain awareness of other vehicles, mobile equipment, personnel, road conditions, stockpiles, dumping areas, and other potential hazards whileoperatingassigned trucks.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections and routine equipment checks before operating assigned trucks.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance, including lubrication, fluid checks, cleaning, and other routine maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Fuel assigned trucks using established fueling procedures andmaintainequipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in and around assigned trucks and work areas.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, abnormal operating conditions, defects, or repair needs to the Mine Superintendent or Maintenance Department.
  • Maintainaccuraterecords of equipment inspections, operating hours, maintenance activities, and material movement asrequired.
  • Follow all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, environmental requirements, traffic rules, andestablishedoperating procedures.
  • Report unsafe conditions, spills, equipment damage, environmental concerns, incidents, injuriesimmediately.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision or management.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while safelyoperatingatractor trailertruck or water truck.
  • Frequentlyoperatesteering controls, hand controls, foot pedals, switches, and other vehicle controls with precision.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit trucks and equipment by climbing steps whilemaintainingthree points of contact.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers tooperatevehicle controls, switches, levers, gauges, and communication equipment.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, grasping, pushing, and pulling whileoperatingtrucks and performing inspections.

  • Ability to hear equipment alarms, backup alarms, radios, warning signals, and verbal communication in a mining environment.
  • Ability tofrequentlyclimb on and off assigned trucks and equipment, including in areas with uneven terrain.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain while accessing trucks, equipment, stockpiles, fueling areas, and other mine work areas.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching while performing inspections, housekeeping, fueling, and routine maintenance.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull tools, hoses, parts, and other materials associated with truck inspection and maintenance.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 poundsfrequentlyand up to 100 pounds occasionally withassistancewhen necessary.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around dust, dirt, mud, and moving vehicles and equipment.

Work Environment
  • Industrial mining and manufacturing environment.
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions.
  • Exposure todust, dirt, mud, vibration, noise, moving vehicles and equipment, and uneven terrain.
  • Exposure to elevated temperatures,cold weather, rain, and humidity.
  • Work involves frequent travel on mine roads, which may include uneven, unpaved, muddy, or changing road conditions.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and anyadditionalPPErequiredfor assigned tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to safelyoperatetractor trailertrucks and water trucks in a mining environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to perform routine truck inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions, inspection forms, safety procedures, warning signs, and other required documentation.
  • Ability to recognize and report equipment problems, unsafe road or operating conditions, safety hazards, and environmental concerns.
  • Ability to safely maneuver, back, position, and dump atractor trailertruck in designated areas.
  • Ability tomaintainsituational awareness and safelyoperatearound pedestrians, mobile equipment, stockpiles, loading areas, and otherminetraffic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability tomaintainattention to safety, production, and operational requirements.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previousexperience operatingtractor trailertrucks, water trucks, or similar trucks in a mining, quarry, construction, or industrial environment preferred.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozer, and front end loaders.
  • Valid driver's license and anyadditionallicense or certificationrequiredfor the assigned vehicle or operation.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all required MSHA training.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all company-required truck and equipment-specific training beforeoperatingassigned trucks independently.
Schedule
Day Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00AM – 5:00 PM

Schedules are subject to change based on production and operational needs.

Must be available to work Saturdays during busy seasons or asrequiredto meet production demands.

May berequiredto work weekends, holidays, or overtime based on operational needs.

Safety Requirements
  • Must follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Mustcomply withall applicable Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations.
  • Must successfully complete all required MSHA training andmaintainany required refresher training.
  • Must successfully complete all company-required truck and equipment-specific training before operating assigned trucks independently.
