Job summary

Hudbay is seeking a Project Mine Operator I to join our Mine Operations team. You will support multi‑functional projects and operate heavy equipment to help construct special projects across the site.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 3 years in mining or related fields, 2 years operating heavy equipment, and the ability to obtain Caterpillar certification for backhoe, water truck and tractor.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent is required.
  • 3 years’ experience in mining, construction, maintenance, landscaping or similar industry.
  • 2 years’ experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to achieve Caterpillar certification for operating a backhoe, water truck, and tractor.

  • Operate heavy equipment to support the construction of special projects throughout the site.
  • Read Blue Stake permits to properly operate heavy equipment near underground electrical, property lines, easements, etc.
  • Operate power tools to perform installation, repair and maintenance of fencing, signage, cabinets, etc.

Purpose of Role:

Reporting to Mine, Project Supervisor, The Project Mine Operator I, will be responsible for various specialized projects within a multi-functional support role to all Mine Operations teams.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Assist and complete various tasks and projects issued by Project Supervisor.
  • Operate Heavy Equipment such as motor grader, track dozer, skid steer, water truck, backhoe, loader, compactor & telehandler to support the construction of special projects throughout the site.
    • Operate connecting skid steer attachments: Auger, Forklift, EZG Chain Link Fence Hog, Barb Wire Hog, Barb Wire Stretch N Go and Mobile Mud Hog.
    • Work on various small earthworks projects around the site.
      • Clearing and grubbing, topsoil stripping, cut and fill, muck excavation, rock excavation, dig trenches, backfill, road maintenance, grading, compaction, etc.
      • Fuel and lube all heavy equipment at the end of the workweek.
      • Responsible for understanding equipment components and practices that reduce component damage and wear (may perform minor maintenance activities).
  • Read Blue Stake permits to properly operate heavy equipment near underground electrical, property lines, easements, etc.
  • Operate power tools such as chainsaw, circular saw, hammer drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw, oscillating tool, grinder, orbit sander, nail gun, etc. to perform installation, repair and maintenance of chain link fencing, barb wire fencing, signage, cabinets, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
  • Education: A high school education or equivalent is required
  • 3 years’ experience in mining, construction, maintenance, landscaping or similar industry
  • 2 years’ experience operating heavy equipment
  • Ability to achieve Caterpillar certification for operating a backhoe, water truck, and tractor
